My Why

By taking the time to truly understand and show genuine care and compassion, we can break down walls and connect with people on a deeper level. It's not always easy, but by demonstrating empathy and humor — like I have done with many Residents and Families over the years — we can discover the true essence of who someone is.

It's important to recognize that every person, especially seniors, has remarkable qualities and rich life experiences. Instead of off color labels or incomplete caricatures, I believe in revering what makes each person unique. This applies to friends, colleagues, members of my team, family, and the residents under my care.

It has been my mission to make this ideology the foundation of senior care since I started as a dishwasher at The Fountains of Melbourne in 1993. Interacting with the residents opened my eyes to their incredible stories and experiences. I discovered a sense of fulfillment in brightening their days, whether through a well-timed joke, a compassionate gesture, or just lending a listening ear.

The pursuit of that mission has taken me from coast to coast, from dishwashing and serving meals to the heights of corporate leadership. Ultimately, the realities of institutionalized care — bureaucracy, politics, endless zoom calls — started to get in the way of what I set out to accomplish in the first place. That’s why I am back in my hometown working with Stacey to launch what will be a quintessential prototype of senior care done right.

Nested Story is more than just a business for us – it's a tribute to our grandparents and a beacon of hope for future residents, showing them that retirement can be filled with connection, growth, and joy.
